Sure, they may already 80% off at the kiosk at the mall, but these 2009 calendars are completely free, and feature no pugs or bikini girls whatsoever. Good work, Tipnut.

By DIY Maven

gifs.com

Human beings, by nature, are superstitious. Perhaps because we live--and will always live--in an uncertain world. So, if having a lucky pair of drawers makes you feel better about the future, I say wear those grundies proudly on new years' day! You might even want to try a few of these luck and love inducing dandies as well.

  1. Kissing at midnight will ensure the affections of those we kiss. If you don’t, you might cause a case of the » READ MORE

Etsy's Shop-By-Color Page

By DIY Maven

created on: 12/23/08

Was I the only one who didn't know about this cool feature on Esty? It's their 'Colors' page, and with it you can shop by color. Just pass your cursor over the page and color bubbles pop up; click the color of your choice and products associated with that color appear. Click on those thumbnails for a larger pic with a description or throw images around. It's a really fun interactive page, even if you're only window shopping!

Virtual Fireplace, in Blu-ray

By DIY Maven

Several years ago, a local television station started airing the ‘Yule Log.’ Basically, it’s a loop of burning logs in a fire accompanied with Christmas tunes. It has become a tradition in many households, even ones with fireplaces like mine, to tune into 'the log’. As a matter of fact, it’s ratings often top the charts. If you don’t have a ‘Yule Log’ station, here’s the perfect answer: HDScape’s Fireplace, which is a crackling fire » READ MORE

Strange Christmas Traditions from Around the World

By DIY Maven

Christmas traditions in my family are pretty straightforward....and boring when compared to what’s going on in the rest of the world! Here's a list with links, just in case you'd like to adopt one or two or more.

In Norway, they hide brooms on Christmas Eve to ward off witches looking to take them for a spin. (Read more about the tradition here.)

In some areas of Italy, they forego the Christmas tree and decorate a small wooden » READ MORE

Perfect for cold & flu & allergy season, the Tissue Pillow is outfitted with a little pocket that you can fill, and re-fill, with kleenex. From Design 3000, it runs about 87 Euro, but I sewer could knock one out in no time! Via.

Dandelion Light Sculpture

By DIY Maven

Lonneke Gordijn's 'Fragile Future' is subtitled 'electronics and dandelions', which is the perfect description for this marriage of technology and nature. Made of a collection of LED's, phosphorous bronze and dandelion seeds, the light sculpture has a fanciful steampunk-y quality about it. If it wasn't fabulous enough, the piece automatically shuts off--sort of like a defense mechanism--when people come too close to it. Via.

Re-Stickable Decal Photo Frames

By DIY Maven

These re-stickable photo frames from Photojojo are so clever I can hardly stand it. Made of premium, pliable vinyl--just like those fancy wall decals--the frames not only stick to walls but to windows too. (I wonder how they'd look on a window framing a photo transfer? Hmmmm.) A set of 8 will set you back 20 big ones--or 2 for 36.
